About

Welcome to Shiny Healthy Dogs! A place where you can come to share how you keep your four-legged kids healthy and happy and living their best lives. I don’t profess to be anyone’s expert, although I will claim to be an experienced dog mom and former pet professional who’s joy in life is making her animals happy. Let me introduce you to my crew of crazy canines.

Meet the Shiny Healthy Dog Pack!

Soleil the Rescue Pom
Soleil the Rescue Pom

Soleil is our rescue Pomeranian. She came to live with us in 2011 as a shut-down, terrified, please-don’t-touch-me rescue pup from Tennessee. We met through an online dating service- er, pet rescue, that was shipping dogs up north. Her story is a sad one, right up until she was placed in my arms and I promised to make her life a better one. I’m still trying as hard as I can to make her happy every day, and she makes me happy just by existing.

Reese Beast

Reese came to us as a puppy and has never really had any trauma that I can tell. She loves everyone, and considers barking- at birds, cats, other dogs, leaves blowing by- an artform and man is she dedicated. This girl is an expert cuddler!

Sprout the Pom
Sprout the Pom Queen

Miss Sprout. What can I say about her? Three and three quarter pounds of pure spit and vinegar. She is the boss. (Or so she thinks. The other dogs laugh at her behind their paws, but they go along with it.) Sprout is Reese’s full sister, although you’d never know it by the size difference. She is also Reese’s biggest competition when it comes to barking. Seriously. I think they are trying to make it an Olympic sport.

Miss Maizee

Maizee is my partner in crime. Where I go, Maizee wants to be. Not because she is clingy or needy, but because she wants to make sure I am doing it right. Maizee is a Mini Aussie (although at 19.6lbs, I think she actually qualifies for toy status) and she has a job to do, so just get out of her way. She loves squeak toys and bouncy balls and our flock of chickens who move when she does. She is also a professional-level cuddler. I honestly never knew I was missing out on having a dog stand on my neck while trying to lick my eyeballs until I met her. Who knew?

Bruce Banner

Oh, Bruce Banner. What do I say about the sweetest, goofiest, gaumiest bull mastiff puppy alive? Barely five months old as I write this and already fifty-eight pounds. He is determined to stay a lap dog, and loves to play with Maizee, but respects the Pomeranians’ need for space. I feel like we special ordered him from heaven, he fits in so well, and I can’t wait to see how he grows and develops over his first year!

Dog Mom

And then there’s me. Former vet tech with a degree in Animal Medical Technology. Owner of a pet grooming business for twenty years before closing just before the onset of the pandemic. Certified pet dog trainer. Animal Reiki Master. Animal Communicator. Student of Animal Naturopathy with a focus on canines. Basically, a lifelong student of dogs. All things that have contributed to my journey as a dog mom. If it has to do with dogs, I want to learn it. So, I plan on continuing my journey as a student of everything canine and I’m inviting you to come along! Cheers!
